Superbowl Shuffle

My Month in Music

Trevor Garrod & Friends: 12/22/06 - Cafe Du Norde, San Francisco
It was a big week to end the work year, and so I went into this show with limited expectations simply because I didn't have much time to think about it beforehand. I walked away with a warm smile on my face and grateful heart at the music which surrounds this great city. This guy has the gift, and watching great local artists contribute to his compositions was truly incredible. Required Listening

My Morning Jacket: 12/30/06 - The Fillmore, San Francisco
Smack in the middle of a NYE run, we caught MMJ's second show at the legendary Fillmore. I got way into it, but something didn't quite click all the way. Maybe it was the night or maybe it was me, but I wanted to get it so much that it just didn't work out. I felt like the band was kind of stuck on two settings that night - super shready epic thrashing and melllllllow...Mad respect for their craft and the voice (Jim James solo was my show of the year) just not as over the top tonite. I heard their NYE show was 'best ever'.

Vinyl: 12/31/06 - Sweetwater Saloon, Mill Valley
We made a great dinner at home, watched the ball drop while listening to the Tea Leaf Green podcast online and at around 11pm pst walked down to the Sweetwater for Vinyl. A good vibe as we walked in during setbreak. Locals were fired up for the big moment. The band came back out at 10 til and rocked it until midnight and then busted into some James Brown and kept people grooving for a while. We jetted a little past 1am since we were going to the airport the next morning for...

Jam Cruise: 1/2/07 - 1/7/07 - Caribbean
Jam Cruise was amazing. I knew going in we'd have a blast since so many of our friends were going and favorite bands were playing, but I didn't realize just how much. I kept reminding myself to literally 'go with the flow' throughout the adventure. By the second day I was fully in-the-moment and having the time of my life. Big props to the producers of the event for pulling off a stellar week of activities and pure musical bliss. In case you missed it, the JamBase recap has a bunch of great photos and top moments. I was in tears when Annabel got the ring. Great to see the Biscuits 'on', see Dee play with Perpetual Groove, watch Umphrey's shread it hang with the SF sound (TLG, ALO, HBR, Zero).

I literally didn't stop swaying for a week.
