"Taking" Responsibility

Seems like the m.o. these days is to avert responsibility and blame.

"you asked me to do that!", "i was just following orders", "the buck stops over there!".

Ironically, the successful boss would want to delegate responsibility and the Linchpin wants to take it, even though their defined 'roles' would beg the opposite.
