I'm not at Bonnaroo...

54 Hours in New York

Wednesday
Noon - Landy in New York after waking up early in Chicago the morning after enduring 9/13th of the Cubs brutal extra innings loss. Actually saw the last couple of innings back at my brother's house once we left after 9. The peanuts and ivy were worth it

1pm - Arrived at Super Dee's House (literally)

2pm - A delicious butternut Square soup and half a burrito at Brookyln's Second Helpings

3pm - Took the F line to 14th St, transferred to the L line to Union Square, finally found the W Hotel and checked in for the InTheCityofNewYork music conference - a UK based conference making it's first appearance in the states this year!

4pm - Hung out for a while listening to Music Industry execs discuss the state of the biz.

5pm - More discussion of the state of the biz, the role of the internet, YouTube, etc...

6pm - Headed out to meet J. Bau for dinner. Walked from Union Square through SoHo. So many people here.

7pm - Took the Subway with J to Grand Central, got out on the street and admired Madison Square Garden, discussed shows of the past and potential of modern day bands to make it to the big time.

8pm - Dinner at a great Chinese place who's name is escaping me now, delicious! The Dumpling were epic, although the last one got me...

9pm - Sky Lounge with the Sznuffers - epic views!

10pm - Ran into Andy Bernstein on 42nd and 10th Ave on my way back to Super's, getting pumped for tomorrow's HeadCount benefit.

11pm - Got back to Dee's as Daily Show was starting, nice!

Midnight - Crashed on the Aerobed, a light and fluffy sleep on air!

Thursday
7am - Arise and Shine

8am - Some morning emails of my own while Dee finishes her work in preparation for her own 40 hours at Bonnaroo

9am - Leave for W to hear Bob Lefsetz speak at Conference

10am - Arrive at W, check-in, waiting for Bob...

11am - Bob is a no-show. Bummer! My panel "The F'n C Word - Community" is a pushed back a little bit

Noon - In the middle of trying to speak intelligently about Social Networking on-line. It's a feature, not a business!

1pm - Listening to Marc Geiger speak about starting ArtistDirect, going public during the bubble, 'failing', learning and then joining William Morris - amazing story.

2pm - Went outside to enjoy the Union Square air and a little chicken soup from the deli across the corner. There are delis everywhere!

3pm - Listening to Festival Panel discuss the state of their world. Paul Tollett from Coachella is clearly the man.

4pm - Left W and headed uptown - Had a unique slice of pizza at Pinch on Park Ave @ 29th St. Pizza by the inch, interesting concept - great music!

5pm - At Sirius Headquarters - an amazing modern day media company with tons of studios, artists and computers everywhere - my favorite were the ones controlling the satellites. I'm a big fan...

6pm - Did the show, felt a little nervous being on the radio but we put a nice hour together. Great Bathtub Gin. Sat around discussing 'Genres' with the programming manager. They're adding a Grateful Dead only station in a few months - sick!

7pm - Arrived at Canal Room for HeadCount benefit featuring Warren Haynes and Bob Weir & Ratdog - nice line forming outside, the energy in the room is palpable as the volunteers get the silent auction set-up and the artists prepare for the evening.

8pm - Bob Weir signs my pass - good vibes are already starting!

9pm - Warren takes the stage with guitar in hand, oh wait, that's his roadie ;) - Oh wait - there's warren!

10pm - Epic Soul Shine

11pm - RatDog is raging, people are having a blast, the signed guitar goes for $13k and we're all smiling!

Midnight - Can't really stand or see anymore, so I need to leave -- band is still grooving but my Head is out for the Count - congrats on an incredible night for a huge cause! Vote!

1am - Took the wrong train from Union Square (not sure why I went back there) and got stuck at the DeKalb station waiting for the local R line...d'oh! Hopped a cab and headed back to SuperDee's House - not too far.

2am - Finally got back and could rest my weary bones. Thanks!

Thursday
Noon - Woke up after one of the best night's sleeps ever. Catching up on emails, put up Bloggaroo

1pm - Watching some of the early footage of Bonnaroo webcast, people look stoked, and hot.

2pm - Went to Bagel Terrace for some shmears and B&W Cookie, yum!

3pm - Watching Cold War Kids while eating schmears and B&W Cookie, uber yum! It's getting late so I need to pack up, clean up Super Dee's House and head to the airport!

4pm - In a cab after searching for one for a little while, traffic is really backed up and he took the Belt parkway - shoulda taken the BQE - d'oh!

5pm - Finally got the airport, checked bag, waiting in security line while girl in front of me is FREAKING OUT that the woman in front of her, who I really thought was her mother, cut ahead of her in line. Some people!

6pm - Waiting on the runway, we're 3rd in line for take-off, "rush hour at the airport" - ha!

Thanks New York, great place to visit...

Airport Power

Sitting at the Airport waiting for a delayed flight, I bit it and bought the $10 wi-fi, damn.

But then my MacBook started losing juice and I didn't want to be left with only an hour of battery time since we've still got a few episodes of Entourage Season 3 to get through and I figured the flight would be the perfect place.

So I start wandering around the terminal looking for power. There's about 1 outlet every couple of gates, and they're all full with business travelers hunched at their laptops.

Here's a few suggestions for airports:
1) Power Strips: Turn two plugs into 12.
2) Fast-charging stations (I've seen this)
3) Free Wi-Fi, please.

Whoever is in charge of the general stuff at the airport could step up and deliver huge value to their customers in this situation.

Thanks to the Bay Bridge deli for their convenient outlet (pictures below) right next to a prime table. The turkey stuffing wasn't too bad either!
